The Wisdom of Henry #5

Revenge is a dish that is best served cold, whereas pizza is a dish that is best served hot. Pizza is better that revenge, because of the cheese.

Oh, Ben, if course I know you were kidding about the woody Canadians! But it was a great example of how Canada gets verbal beat-downs regularly! No worries, mate! Say...I read someplace that Aussies were starting to replace the use of "mate" with "dude" (like USians). Is that true or a dirty, stinkin' lie?

You know the only people I know of who put down Canadians are Americans and I'm afraid they have very little credibility outside of their tiny little world.

Australians make fun of everybody, but especially themselves.

Sadly you are correct, dude. Australian slang is gradually being replaced with those horrible American words. And it's a bloody shame. Stone the crows! Crikey.

Bummer. "Mate" is so much cooler because it implies friendship and friendship. "Dude" implies smoking marijuana. Say...I may quote that first paragraph in your comment for a new essay on how small-minded USians are (I live here so I should know). Your identity, of course, will be strictly protected.

"Mate" is still widely use, but so is "dude" unfortunately. There is a trend of at least twenty years, possibly more, toward replacing Australian slang with American. I blame television.

Another thing that pisses me off is that the vast majority of our bands - well the published ones at least - sing with an american accent. Bloody idiots.

This is not to say that I hate yanks. Just don't want to become one, or a pale imitation of one, is all.

Oh, and quote away.

Did I say something so controversial that you need to protect my identity?

And as far as yanks go, there is such a wide cultural variety in the US that that it would be impossible to imitate the nation. But the "moral majority" that has gripped the country in an icy fist is so reprehensible that, yes, one should avoid even a pale imitation of it at all costs. Nonconsumeristic liberals like myself are...tolerated...which is why I want to move to Canada!

I am a born skeptic and cynic. Politics leaves me cold. I distrust groups.
